Lindy Hop

Lindy Hop is the original style of Swing which evolved in Harlem ballrooms during the late 1920’s and grew in popularity during the 30’s and 40’s. The name Lindy Hop was coined after Charles Lindberg “hopped” the Atlantic in 1927. Of all the different styles of Swing, Lindy Hop Is the most show-stopping, with its circling basic step, fancy footwork, kick steps and Charleston variations.

The Lindy of the ’30s gave rise to Jitterbug in the ’40s, to Rock and Roll in the ’50s, and to East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing, Jive, Shag, and others.
